Gonoe Sushi Japanese Restaurant

The review before mine was writen 10 months ago (in Oct'07). The restaurant may have changed ownership. Although I went in quite hungry, I could not finish either of the 2 dishes I ordered - tempura, and gyu don - due to poor flavor and texture. They did not taste anything Japanese either the gyu don was edible but I stopped at the first bite on the tempura (freshly fried but the batter was v e r y tough. When the waitress gave me my bill, she did not ask why I barely touched the tempura. I guess she knew.

Best sushi by far in Toronto in terms of freshness, quality and price. We go there once a week to get our fix although we don't live nearby. Staff is also very friendly. Would definitely recommend!

Gonoe is outstanding in every way. Excellent food, good value and very friendly staff. My wife and I visit Gonoe for dinner at least three times a month. I have recommended Gonoe to many friends and their consistent feedback has been equally positive.

I have been eating at Gonoe for almost 4 years. Although I used to live nearby and averaged 3 times a week, I'm now commuting back 35km's just to ensure I get my fix. Great menu, great prices and the chef, Key, is always trying something new. By far the best Sushi in Toronto.

Highest quality in Toronto, and so very consistent!

Gonoe sushi in my opinion is one of Toronto's secret treasures when it comes to Sushi. My wife and I decided to try it one day as we had lived nearby and always passed by it. Honestly, I was quite reluctant and didn't really have high expectations of the place given it's location.

The term, looks can be deceiving definitely applies to this place! The staff was friendly! The Sushi Chef, Key is just wonderful to talk to! He's got quite a sense of humour once you get to know him! Normally I would expect to pay for the appetizers (Miso soup, Edaname and ice cream) but No! All part of the meal!

I've tried all of their specialty rolls and loved them all! The Dynamite roll is by far the best one I've ever had anywhere in Toronto! Everything is done to perfection! The chef really goes out of his way to make every roll a work of art! In my entire dining experience with them, I can honestly say I've only been disappointed once with a dish we ordered. Every other time, has been just amazing! And they are constantly experimenting with new creations! Always giving complimentary food to patrons to gauge their reactions to the new dish. Sometimes, it's not a hit, but the majority of the time, it's a hit!

But the most impressive thing about this place are the prices! My wife and I usually order 5 sushi rolls and the bill usually comes out to about $40! I've gone to sushi restaurants which have charged me over $80+ for 4 rolls or less! Needless to say, if you are a big sushi fan, you HAVE to try this place at least once!
